Creating a Marketing Strategy

Whether you are promoting your business or your latest artistic project, a simple marketing strategy can help you monitor and achieve your business objectives.  Particularly in an unstable economic environment, your marketing strategy has never been more important.  A successful marketing strategy has three key components:

  1. The Plan
  2. The Tools
  3. The Use of the Tools.

This newsletter will address the tools of a marketing strategy.

The Tools

Everyone is looking for affordable marketing tools.  In an economic recession, affordable tools are even more of a priority.  Finding more affordable and more efficient tools is not at difficult as one might think.

Brand Identity

A strong brand is the most effective way to promote your work.  Everyone you meet and everything you do during the day promotes your brand.  For most small business owners, you are your brand.  Your brand identity or logo needs to reflect who you are and what you do.  Everything that touches potential clients needs to be simple and easy to understand.  Working with a graphic designer to develop your brand identity, it’s important for you to bring ideas to the table.  Ask yourself these questions:

  • Who am I?
  • Who are my clients?
  • How do I want to be interpreted?

For a workbook to help you with the process, please download the Three Cat Media Design Workbook.

Web Design

The core component to a strong marketing strategy is a web site.  A great website doesn’t need to be flashy.  Like a brochure for your services, a website allows your customers to gain further information about you and what you have to offer.  Your website will allow your audience to reach you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

One of the more expensive components of your marketing plan, it’s important to take time to make your web site work you for you. Your site should reflect your brand, sell your products, and be easy for your audience to use.  If you take some time to address these three areas, your website will not only your business but also your audience.

Postcard Promotion

Creative postcard promotions are an inexpensive and effective component of your marketing strategy.  Whether you place them in strategic locations or hand them to possible clients during networking opportunities, a postcard is a simple and convenient way to get your message into the market place.
